If the user has Mobile Zone installed on their iOS (Apple) or Android device but does not have a PIN they can:

  1. Open the Mobile Zone app

  2. Click Borrow this device

  3. Select the user that you want to borrow to

  4. Click Next

  5. Enter a message in the field after Don’t have a PIN? Send a request to your parent

  6. Click Send 

  7. Click OK on the Borrow request sent pop up

A request will be sent to the parents on the account.  Once approved the owner will change.

If the user has Mobile Zone installed on their Mac, Windows or Chromebook device but does not have a PIN they can:

  1. Click on the Family Zone icon in the task/menu bar

  2. Click Request a change

  3. Select the correct user from the drop down list

  4. Click Borrow this device on the Family Zone page that loads

  5. Click Request borrow

A request will be sent to the parents on the account.  Once approved, the owner will change.


If the user does not have Mobile Zone installed on their device but does not have a PIN they can:

  1. Navigate to home.tools by typing it into the address bar (or from a block page)

  2. Click BORROW THIS DEVICE

  3. Select the correct user from the drop down list

  4. Click Request borrow

A request will be sent to the parents on the account.  Once approved, the owner will change.

How long does it take to take effect?

It takes approximately 30 seconds after a PIN has been entered or borrow approved for the request to be processed.

Does the child get notified that the request has been approved?

No, you’ll need to tell them somehow.

How long does the borrow last?

Borrows completed with a PIN last 60 minutes. Those approved through the parent’s online account can be set for 15, 30, 60 minutes or until the end of the day.

Can you extend the time of the borrow?

No, but they can request another borrow once the initial borrow expires.

Can I make a borrow permanent? 

Sort of, you can change the device owner.

I have a notification but there is no To do in my account, why not?

If you have a notification and there is no To do in your account any more then:

  • Another person with parental access to your account may have actioned or ignored it, or

  • The request may have expired (borrow requests expire at midnight)
