If the user has Mobile Zone installed on their iOS (Apple) or Android device and has a device borrowing PIN set up they can:

  1. Open the Mobile Zone app

  2. Click Borrow this device

  3. Select the user that you want to borrow to

  4. Click Next

  5. Click Enter pin 

  6. Enter the selected user’s 4-digit PIN

  7. Click OK on the Device was Borrowed pop up

The device will then temporarily change owner to the user who was selected. 

NOTE: PINs and device sharing are only available to Premium Subscriptions.


If the user has Mobile Zone installed on their Mac, Windows or Chromebook device and has a device borrowing PIN set up they can:

  1. Click on the Family Zone icon in the task/menu bar

  2. Click Request a change

  3. Click Borrow this device on the Family Zone page that loads

  4. Select the relevant user from the drop-down list

  5. Enter their 4-digit PIN

  6. Click Borrow

The device will then temporarily change owner to the user who was selected. 

NOTE: PINs and device sharing are only available to Premium Subscriptions.

If the user has has hit a block page or gone to home.tools and has a device borrowing PIN set up they can:

  1. Click Borrow this device on the Family Zone page that loads

  2. Select the relevant user from the drop-down list

  3. Enter their 4-digit PIN

  4. Click Borrow

How long does it take to take effect?

It takes approximately 30 seconds after a PIN has been entered or borrow approved for the request to be processed.

How long does the borrow last?

Borrows completed with a PIN last 60 minutes. Those approved through the parent’s online account can be set for 15, 30, 60 minutes or until the end of the day.

Can you extend the time of the borrow?

Yes, if the child has a device borrowing PIN set up, then they can borrow again through home.tools and it will extend the borrow time.  

Can I make a borrow permanent? 

Sort of, you can change the device owner.

If they have forgotten their PIN they can still send you a request to borrow the device which you can approve.
