Our Shared Parenting feature allows parents or guardians to invite other parties to share in the ability to control the internet activity of a child. This feature is designed to support split families, boarding and school boarding situations.
You can invite other parents to share filtering responsibility for your children. This is done by entering the other parent’s email address. Once accepted you can change who is managing your child through their user dashboard in your online account or Zone Manager App.
Which parent is in control of filtering?
Once a shared parenting invitation has been accepted your child has an assigned “manager”. The manager is responsible for filtering at that time.
Any shared parent can take over management at anytime. This is done through your online account by selecting the relevant user.
TIP: Read our help guide to find out How to: change the management of a user.
What is a Primary Parent’?
The first parent to register a child is assumed by us to be the Primary Parent.
The Primary Parent has special admin rights for example only the Primary Parent can approve or remove shared parents, change certain details of the child.
TIP: Read our help guide to find out How to: change the primary parent of a user.
What can a Primary parent do that a secondary parent can’t?
The Primary parent is able to:
Edit the name
Add other shared parenting arrangements
Edit the Date of Birth
Change the Time Zone of the child
What happens if there is a dispute between parents?
The Primary Parent has sole discretion to accept or reject any request for sharing. They may also cancel a shared arrangement at any time. Should there be any disputes between parents we are not able to get involved. The requests of the Primary Parent will be followed.
What happens if one account has a Premium subscription and one account has an Insights subscription?
The shared user will filtered and blocked when they are being managed by the Premium subscription account and monitored reported on when they are being managed by the Insights subscription account.
Who sees what?
The following information will be available for all users with parent access of any accounts that have a shared parenting relationship:
Devices owned by that user
Usage generated by that user
The location of that users devices (if location has been turned on)
Apps for that users devices (iOS (Apple) and Android only)
Snapshots generated by the user
Do shared parents have to be a parent of that child?
No, they can be anyone who might be helping raise the child where the child stays on a regular basis E.G. grandparents, boarding houses, foster parents etc.
Can I invite someone who doesn’t have an account to be a shared parent?
No, you’ll need to make sure that the other party has a Family Zone account and that you have the correct email address for that account.
This feature is available with Premium and Insights subscriptions. Please note filtering is only available to Premium Subscriptions.
