Our cyber safety features ensure the rules you’ve set for your children apply on their devices. They also provide convenient options for users in your family to share devices while ensuring that personal rules apply.

Family Zone allows you to share family devices between family members. Device “borrows” can be easily requested on any device connected to the Family Zone WiFi. Or, set-up PINs for your family to allow them to borrow any device for an hour.

What is device sharing?

Device sharing is the feature which allows users in your family to share devices. 

Device sharing can be used for many reasons including:

  • For older children to use the family’s shared computer with their policies applying; and

  • For parents to use children’s devices without any filters applying.

What is the easiest way to allow my family to share devices?

The easiest method is by using PINs for each user in your family, 

Family members can use their PIN to borrow a device for 1 hour through:

  • Block pages (pages they get redirected to when blocked)

  • http://home.tools (our tools page, accessible through a browser on a filtered device)

  • The Mobile Zone app

Can devices be shared without PINs?

Yes.

Family members can request to borrow by creating a To do through and sending an email and/or push notification to your phone:

  • Block pages (pages they get redirected to when blocked)

  • http://home.tools (our tools page, accessible through a browser on a filtered device)

Can I check what user a device is assigned to?

Yes in a few ways:

  • From a “blocked page” (pages users get redirected to when blocked)

  • From http://home.tools (our tools page, accessible through a browser on a filtered device)

  • From the Mobile Zone app

  • From your online account (Settings > Devices)

We have a family computer. How should I set it up?

We suggest you assign shared devices (like a family laptop) to the youngest member of your family. This ensures the most restrictive rules apply.

Then setup your family members with PINs so they can borrow it when it’s their turn.

Can borrows be cancelled?

Yes.  You can cancel a borrow through your online account or the Zone Manager app.

Do I need the Mobile Zone app on a device to borrow?

No.  If the device is connected to a Family Zone box children can borrow it through the blocked page or by going to home.tools. 

What happens if I forget to cancel a borrow?

Don’t worry, we automatically cancel all device borrowing at midnight. The assigned user and rules will revert to the device owner.

What if my child forgets their PIN?

They can request a borrow without their PIN and you’ll need to approve it through your online account or Zone Manager

My family has no shared devices, do I need to set pins for my kids?

No. Pins are optional for children. 

My children sometimes use my device. Should I assign them as the owner?

No. If you do this they will not be subject to monitoring or control.
